2021: A Renewed Focus on Security

Two weeks before the end of what I can only describe as a year for the history books, U.S. government agencies and private companies rushed to secure their computer networks from a suspected cyber-attack. Following the disclosure of a sophisticated and long-running cyber-espionage attack perpetuated via a widely used network management software, SolarWinds, many organizations rushed to secure their critical systems and determine which data had been affected. The hack began as early as March when malicious code was snuck into updates to SolarWinds software that monitors computer networks.

The full extent of the damage is not yet known. However, the potential threat was significant enough that the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity unit directed all federal agencies to remove the compromised network management software. Several private organizations, including many Fortune 500 companies, were also affected and were expected to do the same.

The malicious updates used to infiltrate these systems were sent between March and June of 2020 when the world was battling the first wave of coronavirus infections. Reports suggest that hackers were able to impersonate system administrators and have total access to the infected networks. It is just one more example of how cyber-criminals used the uncertainty surrounding the pandemic as an opportunity to attack vulnerable systems.

As we reflect on the things we’ve learned from the pandemic, the importance of cybersecurity should be one of them. Organizations must renew their focus on cybersecurity to ensure that they are prepared to address and prevent cyber-threats and attacks.

We see this as an opportunity to remind organizations of the importance of maintaining their critical systems and applications secure.

CSP has been working tirelessly to provide reliable security solutions that help corporations ensure compliance and maintain their critical systems and applications secure.

Many organizations are now taking cybersecurity as seriously as they should have before the pandemic. Security is no longer only about compliance but a matter of stability and persistence. For most organizations, cybersecurity has become the number one pressing issue.

Numerous enterprises have now moved to fully working remotely. It means that every organizational employee is remotely accessing and using the company’s data. This situation can pose several security risks. The only manner in which we can mitigate and address these risks is by focusing on cybersecurity.
