Data Protection Resolution 2019 – Data-Centric Security Should be a Part of your GDPR Strategy

DanHappy New Year and welcome to a prosperous and successful 2019.
As is customary around this time of year, many of us are thinking about New Year’s resolutions, which will make a difference in our lives. These usually revolve around doing more exercise, eating or drinking less, clearing out that shed or attic, etc.
But, for organisations that process sensitive PII (personally identifiable information), the resolution for 2019 should include a strategy and plan to implement data-centric security. Why?
Companies from many industries, including payments processing, telco, healthcare, hospitality, travel, online retail and many more, all deal with and process vast amounts of PII data every day. These companies need to ensure that this data is protected properly or else they will be subjected to hefty fines and other measures if found non-compliant with applicable regulations at the time of a breach.
Needless to say, compliance with GDPR or other data protection regulations like PCI DSS for the payments industry is not a one-off event but rather a general approach to data security.
