1. HPE Shadowbase – What’s New in ’22? – TBC22-VT07, Wednesday 4-5pm

Learn about recent HPE Shadowbase releases and new features to solve various enterprise challenges:

• Business Continuity – eliminate unplanned downtime and maintain consistency and recoverability with active/passive, sizzling-hot-takeover, and active/active replication architectures
• Data Integration and Synchronization – stream data via change data capture to data warehouses, data marts, and operational data stores
• Application Integration – integrate applications as data changes to build real-time business intelligence systems for sales, fraud detection, decision support, and more
• Zero Downtime Migration – eliminate planned application downtime and minimize the risks associated with hardware and software changes, upgrades, and platform refreshes

2. Active/Active and Validation Architectures for Mission Critical Systems, Thursday 10:15-11:15am

The three pillars of mission critical computing are Reliability, Availability, and Scalability – “RAS” for short. Reliability encompasses data integrity, but receives much less attention in the industry than Availability or Scalability. However, it is just as important. Data integrity is a critical customer and regulatory concern, and is adversely affected by software bugs, hardware errors, malware, hacking, and many other common problems. Data integrity is now at the forefront of business concerns, and a primary challenge for businesses to solve.

We briefly review the three pillars, focusing on innovative new HPE NonStop and ProLiant Server architectures and technologies that maximize Reliability and data integrity, in addition to Availability and Scalability. We also review a case study and evolving proof-of-concept on preventing election hacking that illustrates this new technology, using HPE NonStop and ProLiant Servers.

3. Central Bank of Oman Dramatically Improves its Payment Switch’s Availability – TBC22-TB50, Wednesday 2:45-3:45pm

The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) needed to upgrade their NS2100s, which were approaching End-of-Life dates, to NSX3s. CBO leveraged an HPE Shadowbase Zero Downtime Migration (ZDM) to perform the platform refresh for their BASE24 application. They also decided to replace their active/passive RDF configuration, which is in the MATURE product state with no new features planned, with a more advanced HPE Shadowbase Business Continuity Sizzling-Hot-Takeover (SZT) solution. The bank is now strategically positioned to deploy a future active/active solution.

Deploying applications in an SZT architecture dramatically improves availability and recovery time beyond their original configuration because the application is already up and running, ready to takeover transaction processing on the standby node. This project also eliminated application downtime risk during the migration since ZDM allows failover to a fully tested and verified known-working system. We will review the project goals, requirements, aggressive timeline, and “gotchas,” including the how and why of the choices made for the ultimate architecture (and products) selected.

4. HPE Business Continuity Product Suite Update – TBC22-TB11, Wednesday 10:30-11:25am

Learn how to put business continuity into practice to eliminate planned and unplanned application outages, and ensure that your replicated data is always synchronized and consistent. Attend this talk to understand how HPE Business Continuity products complement HPE NonStop systems to continuously maintain the availability of your data and applications. Beyond data replication, this talk will cover the latest data integration and data streaming techniques for integrating your data across the enterprise in a hybrid IT world – including Oracle, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server, SAP Hana, SAP Sybase, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and more.

5. HPE In-Booth Demo – How to Gain Deep Insight into HPE Shadowbase with HPE NonStop Web ViewPoint Enterprise

Web ViewPoint Enterprise now offers an open architecture where metrics and availability information from other applications can be displayed on its Dashboard. All Web ViewPoint Enterprise customers may receive a copy of “Shadowbase Monitor” to see status and statistics on their Shadowbase environment. This session shows you how this is done, and what other advantages it offers you.

Gravic Presented at CTUG Fall Conference and Education Day

In September, Gravic presented at the CTUG (Canadian Tandem User Group) Fall Conference at the HPE Office in Toronto. The Conference Day kicked off with a brief CTUG update from Jack McAuley, CTUG President. Justin Simonds, HPE Master Technologist, then presented Anti-Money Laundering and Know your Client. We found his presentation very moving, and we wish him well getting HPE funding/support to move the cause further. Justin was quite knowledgeable and did a significant amount of research on Human Trafficking and how trends in transactional data can highlight potential trafficking events. Keith Moore, HPE Distinguished Technologist, next presented Everything New in 2022, NonStop Technology; we found it so important that we are reviewing the material with our entire development organization. We presented HPE Shadowbase Product News which discussed Business Continuity approaches that enterprises are using in production, how to replace EOSL and out-of-date replication products with HPE Shadowbase, and our newest video, the HPE Shadowbase Essentials Bundle.

For the Education Day, we presented on Validation Architecture, a new solution that Gravic is building in conjunction with Gravic Labs, Shadowbase Software, and Remark Software. Attendees caught a glimpse of what a “Best of Both Worlds High Integrity Voting System” would look like in the real world.
