SunTUG is well and truly in the rear view mirror as is DUST (more than appropriate, given the rear view mirror imagery), and for many Southern California’s SCTU event of April 19 is too close to think of changing plans, but gatherings of NonStop users continues unabated and that is good news for the NonStop community. However, as you look at what will be happening during May and into June, the number of Regional User Group (RUG) events ramps up considerably.

With so many of us still recalling the good times when ITUG was flourishing, and where there were some 30+ active RUGs each holding events, it really is encouraging to see so many members of the NonStop community keen to get together to share updates on their own usage of NonStop. HPE has some serious events already planned but with so many products in its product portfolio, it’s often hard to detect news of NonStop. This is not the case at RUG events where NonStop is the sole focus of HPE’s attention and where NonStop team members are only too happy to talk about all things NonStop!

So, what can we expect to hear from HPE at these events? Perhaps one news item worthy of covering is the move by HPE to new offices. Moving away from HP’s former headquarters in Palo Alto, the first news we received was that HPE was going to take up residence on the campus of Aruba in Santa Clara. Writing on behalf of a number of NonStop evangelists, this wasn’t too pleasing to read – Aruba is a big name in networking but surely, don’t hide HPE in the back lot of Aruba! Fortunately, news has just come in of HPE moving to San Jose instead and to a new facility being built a short distance north of Highway 101 with views of the South Bay and the coastal mountains. I am sure we will be hearing a lot of this in the near term, so congratulations HPE – a much wiser decision all around!

But that is only a minor part of the news coming from HPE. How many of us think that the availability of a virtualized NonStop will become a game-changer? How many of us think that running virtualized NonStop workloads in private clouds will really fire-up the NonStop community in ways we haven’t seen for a while – for any enterprise building out x86 farms and running them as private clouds NonStop can add value in ways we can only imagine for now. Payments Switches, Healthcare Systems, and yes, probably most important of all, Mobile Phone Applications. And, with NonStop SQL/MX multitenancy coming to the fore – who knows! We may just see NonStop at the very heart of a cloud configuration running the all-important database housing critical information about the business. And oh yes, before we forget, Blockchain, anyone?  But you will have to get to your local RUG meeting to get the full scoop on all of these developments.

Who is holding RUG meetings and events that we already know about? Well, check the following list (and remember to talk to your NonStop sales team as the list is continuing to grow):
