2021. What an interesting year. With the world turned upside down by a pandemic that seemingly had its sights set on...
HPE RUG events worldwide, 2018
NonStop Insider
DanIf ever there were any concerns over the health of RUG events no one needs to look much further than the recent SCTUG event held near Los Angeles, CA. The NonStop community in Southern California turned up in numbers as did senior managers from HPE and a quick glance at the photo below reveals how interactive the sessions were, as clearly, Justin Simonds and Joel Sigman (both standing) were intent in communicating the message of NonStop. I can only guess but based on recent RUG presentations I am wondering – did someone say Blockchain? And is that a group of comforte and Xypro folks, seated in the back, listening intently?
As we go to press with this issue of NonStop Insider, two big European events are about to kick-off: BITUG (London) followed by GTUG (Leipzig). While some of us will miss BITUG there is no question whatsoever about missing GTUG and I am sure there will be many members of the NonStop community present for what really is the pan-European event for all of the NonStop community – there will be walking tours of Leipzig provided as the event kicks off as well as a tour of a Porsche factory as the event winds down. If you would like to know more about the agenda, GTUG has now published it and it can be found by following this link:

On the other hand, for those of us that will remain behind in the U.S. there is still the almost back to back RUG events of NENUG (May 21) and NYNUG (May 23) and after all the bad weather the folks back east have experienced this winter, it will be a welcome change to see the many members of the NonStop community in what we all anticipate will be a glorious spring sunshine. And this is where the real strength of the NonStop community comes to the fore – lively engagement! Who will be upgrading to the new NonStop X systems and who will bypass them in favor of tackling the brave new world of virtualization? Who will be looking to pull down NonStop on the basis of SaaS and who will, as OmniPayments have done, build their own cloud out of NonStop systems? There are now so many choices that can be made when it comes to real world deployment of mission critical NonStop applications that you will only hear about when you attend RUG events so don’t forget, before you can make a rational decision in this regard, wouldn’t it be wise to listen to those who have already made similar decisions?

Plan on arriving in time for Sunday’s planned preconference workshops and as for the conference itself, it already looks like there will be a full program running from Monday, November 12 on through to Wednesday, November 14. The event will be held, once again, in Burlingame, CA, right next to the airport and nearby to many good restaurants back in Burlingame proper. As for agenda and keynotes, then stay tuned as this year represents a major transitional year for NonStop as it begins its journey down two separate paths and it will be good to hear directly from the NonStop team about just how well this journey is progressing.
As for your team here at NonStop Insider we already have firm plans in place to participate in as many of these events as possible so keep an eye out for us and don’t hesitate talking with us as so much is going on that we really appreciate every conversation we have with the NonStop community and before I forget – safe travels to all those road warriors heading out this month. Hope to see you all!
