2021. What an interesting year. With the world turned upside down by a pandemic that seemingly had its sights set on...
HPE RUG events worldwide, 2018
HPE
A lot of attention is now being directed to virtualized NonStop (vNS), Blockchain, the option to choose how best to consume Nonstop and yes, the first presentations on NonStop X systems going from X1 to X2. If you want to know what all this means as it relates to your own roadmaps for your business, then the best way to find out what’s really going on is to attend a RUG event. Of course, there are a couple of HPE big-tent marketing events held worldwide that paint a bright picture when it comes to the future of HPE, but if you want to know what’s really going on with NonStop nothing beats the presentations and dialogue that the NonStop team delivers at RUG events.
Coming into September there are many RUG events planned. Of these, it’s worth drawing attention to a couple of them starting with the DUST RUG event to be held in Scottsdale, Arizona. One of the longest continuously operating RUGs around, it’s always a fun time as vendors with competing products show up and the conversations can get lively very quickly. Did we mention, there is always good food on hand. Unfortunately, by the time you read this update on RUGs, you may have missed out but if you want to know more about what happened then you can always reach out to organizers Kathy – kwood@blackwood-systems.comand Shawn – shawn.evans@cvshealth.com
On the other side of the planet and a lot further south than Scottsdale is Sydney, Australia. Popularity of OzTUG continues to run high and NonStop vendors’ participation from all four corners of the planet is assured with numerous partners already indicating their support. When it comes to the topics to be covered according to the most recent email that I have seen coming from HPE’s David Gillbanks, the subject matter will be very much in line with all that was referenced above. “This year’s announcements of Virtualized NonStop with VMWare, Dynamic Capacity, Blockchain as a Service, Gen10 release of CLIMs and many other innovations demonstrates HPE’s continuing investment in our premier Mission Critical platform. Innovation is the cornerstone of HPE and the theme for this year’s summit will be ‘Always on and always adapting.’” If you want to know more about OzTUG – and yes, it will be held in Melbourne on September 20, following the event in Sydney on September 18 (old rivalries run deep in Oz) – then I am sure David would like to hear from you at david.gillbanks@hpe.com
Returning to America’s shores, the next big event will be in Mississauga, Ontario. This will be occasion when the Canadian users get together for the two days of CTUG, September 26 and 27. The first day will be the traditional user event with the second day set aside as a day of education. The venue will once again be at HP Canada, 5150 Spectrum Way, Mississauga, Ontario. As CTUG President, Dave Harper, tells it, “We have had good support from HPE for the conference presenters and our education day. We will have Justin Simonds who will do the NonStop update and Jeff Skinner is coming to do the Blockchain vision. And I think we have Raphael Davidson to assist.” But if there is more information that you need to get from Dave I am sure he will be only too happy to receive your email at D.Harper@comforte.com
Remember, too, that right after CTUG, there will be a MATUG event held at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Baltimore-BWI Airport on September 28. There are already three HPE speakers lined up with one a session focused on, Application Modernization: DevOps and Microservices, another that will be an update on HPE NonStop Blockchain / Distributed Ledger Technology with the last presentation being the HPE NonStop Roadmap and Product Update. You will need to register at https://eventbrite.com/event/16902004350/but if you need further information, you can reach out to Susan Loeliger at sloeliger@gravic.com
Finally, there will be a gathering in Mexico at the Sheraton Maria Isabel Hotel in Mexico City on October 4th for the MexTUG RUG event. In a recent exchange with XYPRO’s Gabriel Alvarez who is helping Edgar Veloz, the MexTUG Chapter President, “we are very excited as every detail is being finalized and we are very much ready to host this year’s MexTUG.” HPE Mexico is providing a helping hand as is Connect and right now, “it is all good on our side and happy to welcome all the NonStop community in Mexico” added Gabriel. If you would like to know more about this upcoming event I am sure Gabriel would like to hear from you as well and he can be reached at gabriel_a@xypro.comand of course, Edgar can be reached at erveloze@liverpool.com.mx

Let’s not forget too to plan for next year’s big European event, eBITUG to be held in Edinburgh, Scotland, May 13, 14, and 15, 2019 with the latest word coming from Collin Yates setting the stage for what to expect, letting all of us know that, “For the Tuesday (May 14th) evening event / party, we have something extra special arranged – It’s a very Traditional Scottish themed evening which includes a scrumptious 4-course ‘Taste of Scotland’ Gala Dinner – complete with welcome drink, Haggis, Piper, a wee dram, and traditional Scottish entertainment!”
