HPE RUGs – July Update

NonStop Insider

July proved to be an active month for HPE with industry and with NonStop RUG events being held in the Asian region. KNUG (Seoul, Korea) and TNUG (Taipei, Taiwan) were the big events for the month as far as the NonStop community goes, but there were other HPE events being held in Japan as well. Branded the HPE NonStop Innovation Summit 2019 in Seoul and the HPE NonStop & MCS Technology Day in Taipei, you will find further references to one vendor’s perspective in the article by Gravic that appears in this issue of NonStop Insider.

At the KNUG RUG event, HPE IT Use of NonStop was the presentation by Franz Koenig; HPE NonStop APAC Business Update was provided by HPE’s Business Development manager, Gelin Cheng; and NonStop Portfolio & Software Update was provided by NonStop Solution Architect, Anthony Ho. As for the TNUG event, Franz Koenig drew attendees to what must be the most popular topic of late, Modernization of Mission Critical System. For further impressions made at this event, you may want to take a look as Gravic’s article as it highlights a number of presentations including some given by individuals well known to the NonStop community. Gravic wasn’t the sole NonStop vendor participating in the event as they were joined by comforte, Idelji and NuWave among others. “I was especially blown away by the attendance in Taipei; I heard there were about 130 attendees,” said Keonig. “Yes, it was (a) Mission Critical Systems event but NonStop had the majority of attendees which became quite clear during the afternoon breakout sessions.”

While these RUG events were wrapping up, the NonStop vendor community was preparing for the upcoming NonStop Vendor Symposium. Being held in the new San Jose HPE Headquarters, this event is much anticipated as it will likely be the first time many of the attendees will be seeing the new facilities, but just as importantly, there are a number of sessions planned where the vendors hope to hear updates on products rollout and acceptance among enterprise IT organizations.

Clearly, virtualized NonStop together with new consumption models in support of NonStop as a Service (NSaaS) are also items high on the list of topics of interest – some early adopters among the NonStop vendor community are already planning the rollout of their own private clouds focused on specific industries as well as on specific technologies and interest is running high on finding out just how the NonStop team is putting all the pieces together to make running NonStop and NonStop solutions on private clouds a cost-optimized offering.

One potential upside for those attending ATUG in Atlanta next month – you will be the first to hear from those NonStop vendors participating in the NonStop Partner Symposium. Well, at least for the material that isn’t covered by CDAs, of course!

Later in the year we will have the NonStop Technical Boot Camp where some of the above topics will likely be addressed in more detail. Latest emails from Connect tell us that “The Call for Papers is OPEN. Submit your presentation for consideration here.” As for a list of keynote speakers you can begin checking them out at: https://www.nonstoptbc.com/2019-speakers

Any opportunity to hear Dr. Tim Chou is an opportunity not to be missed!

However, there is one additional RUG event that is worth mentioning as it already is the subject of promotion even though it’s not happening until December. BITUG will be holding their SIG December 3rd in London, at the time of year as the holiday season begins to take shape in earnest; it’s got to be the place to go to celebrate 2019 coming to an end! In the meantime, BITUG is soliciting articles or white papers to include in their BITUG Autumn  /Fall Newsletter along with advertising support from the NonStop vendor community. According to emails already distributed, the BITUG committee needs confirmation of your intention to advertise and / or submit an article by September 1st including size of Ad etc. You will then need your adverts / articles completed and submitted by September 13th, please. If you would like more information about either adverts / articles and you missed getting the latest email from BITUG then just contact Collin Yates, BITUG (British Isles Tandem User Group) Chairperson 2019 at Collin.yates@bitug.com

For all other upcoming events, take a look below at the list and should you be aware of other RUG events that might be planned that aren’t included in this list, make sure you let us know in time for the next issue of NonStop Insider.
