It’s no coincidence that RUG events are kicking off in North America and that they are being held on both sides of the continent, much closer to the equator – Florida and Arizona. Any surprises to read that baseball’s Spring Training kicks off with the Grapefruit and Cactus leagues playing in similar locations – Florida and Arizona? Up first, and waiting for the pitch from the HPE NonStop team, as it were, was SunTUG and the stands were full by all accounts. A little under 100, an impressive turn out!

Roland Roland presented a new project the team is pursuing. It can be described as a DB server that is designed for deployments where customer applications can be deployed on Linux or Windows servers yet require their data to be highly protected and always available in real-time. The product will include features such as DBS which indeed allows for a DBaaS experience leading to a better consolidation and lower cost through automation and multi-tenancy.

Support from the NonStop vendor community was in evidence everywhere you turned and without their strong support, many RUG events simply couldn’t be held – the NonStop community owes them all a big round of thanks. There were numerous vendor presentations provided as well and to see a full house was encouragement enough to keep attendees engaged throughout the day.

When it comes to big tent events and yes we are talking about the majors – those all-important vendors that set the stage for future technology innovations and where HPE continues to be one of the most influential “teams” – there’s nothing bigger for HPE looming on the horizon than this year’s HPE Discover 2020 event. To be held yet again in Las Vegas, it is still the place you just have to go to see HPE in all its pristine glory.

Team Manager Neri announced last year that the team was entering a three-year building phase as HPE transitions to everything-as-a-service (XaaS) as well as providing access to all HPE product offerings at the Edge as well as the Core so, it will be interesting to see the early results as the 2022 season isn’t far off. We can be assured of one thing though, when it comes to innovation and forward-thinking, HPE has already demonstrated a willingness to change the lineup to best suit the prevailing market conditions.

Let’s not forget, too, that prior to HPE Discover there is the Mid-Atlantic Tandem User Group (MATUG) meeting which is yet another great opportunity to see the HPE NonStop roadmaps first-hand and to hear all of the latest news on NonStop development, product management, and sales. MATUG provides members with the opportunity to participate in quality informational sessions from vendors and network with fellow HPE NonStop users.

Please register via Eventbrite for the MATUG Meeting scheduled for 8am-5pm on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at the HPE Office in Reston, VA, near Washington DC. Space is limited, so please register early.

VENDORS, ISV’s, and SOFTWARE PROVIDERS: There are only two 25-minute vendor presentation slots still available, for a reasonable sponsorship fee (estimated to be about $250). These slots will be filled on a “first-come first-serve” basis, based on the time of your email response to Susan Loeliger, MATUG Secretary/Treasurer. (User presentations take preference and are free.)

The MATUG meeting is open at no cost to all HPE NonStop customers, partners, users, consultants, or other interested parties. Members are usually from the following states: Virginia, Washington, D.C., Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and West Virginia, although anyone can attend.

Please forward this announcement to others in your organization who may be interested in attending. Contact us if you have any questions. Please note that due to the coronavirus, the final decision to hold the meeting will be made by the end of March. We look forward to seeing you!

No slight of respect to those organizing RUG events and clearly, no intimation that NonStop is in the minor leagues, but rather, confirmation that even as HPE plays in the majors, it cannot make it through a season without performance coming from its “Triple A” affiliate. HPE continues to make acquisitions and to fill in the blanks it has circled on PowerPoint slides, but it’s hard to ignore NonStop capabilities core to edge. And with the 2020 season as young as it is there is no denying that already, NonStop is delivering! But if you want to know more, you just have to attend the show; nearly 100 attendees at SunTUG – what a start!

Of course sporting references can only go so far with NonStop but how many of us have been caught thinking about Home Runs or clearing the fences with a big “six”? In keeping with the international appeal of NonStop, Swinging for the fences is as much an image of success as any other image although a sweetly hit “Six” in cricket can generate similar emotions as does witnessing a baseball that’s hit “out of the park!” Ah, the boys of summer …

Unfortunately, as in any sporting event there are elements of unpredictability. As we went to “print” news just broke that DUST was being cancelled. According to an email just received from Kathy Wood:

“Several key members of our group are unable to travel. Thanks for your understanding. I’ll let you know when DUST is rescheduled.”

It would be unpardonable of us to not make reference to the upcoming IT-Symposium 2020 in Berlin. Look for even greater promotion of this event in the next issue of NonStop Insider where this event will be featured. Yet again, we hope to see you soon, as this year your team at NonStop Insider will be throwing their support behind RUG events wherever they are held:
