Hard to imagine, but one more year is about to pass us by and with its passing we are coming up onto the NonStop Technical Bootcamp 2017 (TBC 2017). As much as we may yearn for the days of ITUG Summits of former times, no matter what this event calls itself, for the majority of the NonStop community it is all about NonStop and that is the most important aspect of all. It’s what keeps bringing us back to northern California and what has helped see continued growth in participation from all stakeholders within the NonStop community.

If as yet you haven’t registered or are seeking more information about this year’s event, then check out this web page on the Connect Community web site. TBC 2017 will run from November 13 through 16 with a pre-conference seminar on November 12. As for location it will be near the San Francisco airport, at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport, alongside the bay in Burlingame. A break from the traditional location at the San Jose Fairmont it will bring participants a lot closer to the many attractions San Francisco has to offer and it will be very interesting to watch how big a drawcard this location will prove to be and just how many more members of the global NonStop community elect to make the journey to the very center of Silicon Valley.

The TBC events of previous years have seen more than their fair share of firsts. After all, it was at TBC where we first heard of the deep port to the Intel x86 architecture, with the unveiling of the NonStop X family of systems. It was also the venue where we heard from then-CTO Martin Fink about the possibility of NonStop running on virtual machines that proved to be very true and at the following years TBC the wraps were removed from this project for all participants to see a working prototype. And then too few would have missed how HPE IT was deploying NonStop X (even as it was testing vNonStop apparently) at the very heart of its data center as it moved data off of Oracle databases and onto NonStop SQL – a move that was embracing NonStop SQL on the basis of a DBaaS offering. So, what can we expect to see revealed at this year’s event?

When it comes to wish lists the majority of NonStop vendors polled last month want to see more marketing effort put into NonStop as they believe the time is right to focus the spotlight on NonStop. As vNonStop will be running on virtual machines and be quite capable of being provisioned within clouds public and private it will afford enterprises a level of availability and hence reliability unlike any other platform that they may be contemplating when it comes to support of mission critical applications. On the other hand, since HPE first came onto the scene every vendor supporting NonStop has wished for greater exposure of NonStop in the global marketplace but perhaps this time, we will hear more about what HPE has install for NonStop longer term. When it comes to products and technologies then I am sure we are going to hear and indeed see a lot more about the recent port of R3 Corda as blockchain distributed immutable ledgers are gaining wider attention. Coming from the same vendors contacted above was the understanding that this could have a huge impact on NonStop as after all, according to the editorial of the Sep 1, 2017 issue of Fortune Magazine, “There isn’t a sector of the economy today, after all, where customers aren’t demanding faster transactions and lower costs” and this is where blockchain can really make a contribution.

Again, if you have as yet not made plans to attend TBC 2017 then check the Connect web site and begin making plans. You will have a lot of your colleagues participating so don’t miss out and the NonStop Insider team will be present and only too happy to discuss anything at all about NonStop with you. Don’t forget too that one of the primary objectives from attending each year’s TBC is the opportunity to network and for TBC 2017, we all have to thank OmniPayments and Yash as they will be funding the big event on Tuesday night, November 14 – Connect NonStop Community Celebration where networking with your peers will be definitely encouraged and potentially, for many of us, prove to be the highlight of this upcoming big event for the whole of the NonStop community. See you there!
