Welcome to NonStop Insider

Welcome to the first issue of the monthly publication, NonStop Insider.

NonStop Insider is a new monthly publication built by and for the NonStop community. It is specifically designed to be mobile friendly, allowing the readers to access it at their convenience. So let me describe the intent and goals of NonStop Insider as well as introduce myself, its managing editor. For some time now I have become aware that even with the newsletters and magazines available to the NonStop community there was a real need to provide unfiltered information covering all that is happening with HPE and with NonStop – and this first issue couldn’t be more timely. Just how many more changes can we expect to see at HPE?

For those readers who do not know me I have had a long association with NonStop dating back to when I joined the development organization of Tandem Computers in 1983. I suspect this places me within a group of souls who have embraced all things Tandem, absorbed the doctrine and the belief in NonStop and continue as active participants in the NonStop ecosystem. I’m afraid there are not many of us, and with HPE “righting the pyramid” there is every chance that there will be a lot less of us shortly. This makes spreading the NonStop word to the next generations so much more important. My interests in NonStop has not waned through the years as I moved from development teams to managing development groups to, working for Bill Heil, taking on the role of COO of the ServerWare organization (later named NonStop Software). Stepping away from Tandem Computers following its acquisition by Compaq, I spent time as a senior executive at InSession, ACI Worldwide, XYPRO, and in recent years serving on the Board of Directors of the Australian company, InfraSoft Pty. Limited So yes, you can say I have been in the NonStop environment for most of my working life.

I consider it the goal of NonStop Insider to provide a variety of perspectives from many parties that continue to work closely with NonStop users. It is the user perspective that I believe drives everything that is happening with NonStop and into the mix of NonStop users I now include HPE’s own IT organization as I see its IT as a valid source of requirements. In the coming months you will see short articles from numerous vendors as well as a series of insights coming directly from users so as I wrap up this first editorial, feel free to ask questions as well as submit short articles on any aspect of NonStop to editor@nonstopinsider.com. And yes, let me know what you think of this first issue, as your input is important to me.
