2021. What an interesting year. With the world turned upside down by a pandemic that seemingly had its sights set on...
Post-NonStop TBC 2024 Reflections

The NonStop 2024 Tech Bootcamp couldn’t have been at a more lovely location than Monterey, CA, in the early autumn. Weather was perfect, which made for an even more friendly and comfortable event that usual. I knew what to expect from the area from my years visiting the Silicon Valley and driving down on weekends and just marveling at the coastline and foothills. But I was greatly excited for my wife, Cindy, to be able to experience it for the first time. Not surprisingly, she had an exceptional time too, while I was busy during the day. The aquarium dinner was a great chance to mingle but seemed to end all too quickly to be able to visit with as many as I had hope to.
Away from the fun, the business at hand was to learn, teach, and engage the NonStop user community at individual levels for as many as I could. I had concerns going in that there might be a retreat from the usual customer participation, but in the end, there were supporting customer users and great content and support from all of the HPE partners.
After all of these years, it is amazing that the community is still fresh with enthusiasm each year. Beyond this, I was even more encouraged to see year over year, continuing shift toward new users. It’s not just the younger ages, but more importantly the larger number of users that are newer to the NonStop as a technology.
Casey Taylor mentioned this in the keynote and it is something that HPE is keen to help foster. We need to continue to grow the number of newly interested users who can drive HPE innovation over the next years. Many new projects will be inspired by the voices outside of HPE. It is imperative to leverage this event and an open communication between the user community and the future HPE plans.
The User meetings around the world are just part of the need. Each of us is responsible for evangelizing and building a larger extended community of users to NonStop. I know that I do this inside of HPE. The technical embrace of NonStop is not a mutually exclusive endeavor. NonStop is an additive skill and a different way to leverage IT expertise.
It is common for new users to approach the platform initially cautiously and yet eventually choose to embrace the technical value, and yes, the quirks of the solution. It is incumbent on all of us to introduce this to a broader audience.
There were a few talks that were directly pointed at this initiative and need. One by Lucrecia Krause and one by Shanice Abagail. These talks are easily reviewed after the event and represent a drive to embrace and educate a broader IT community. The entire set of talks will be made available in a little while as the committee is working through them now and placing them onto a site for review in the future. Wait for news on that.
In the meantime, you can see the developer and background information at: HPE NonStop | HPE Developer Portal (https://developer.hpe.com/platform/hpe-nonstop/home/) This is a valuable site that can provide introductions and guides for new users. This is thanks to Shanice Abagail, Nelson Wong, Lucrecia Krause, and others!
Thank you, team!
