TANDsoft Praises NonStop Collaboration / Networking Opportunities in New Connection Cover Article
TANDsoft
DanTANDsoft’s Jack Di Giacomo met his first Tandem computer as a young college graduate. He worked for others in Tandem development, then took the leap into entrepreneurship by starting TANDSoft Consultants Inc. Fortunately, his wife, Amanda, was supportive. You’ll find “NonStop Collaboration / Networking Is Key to TANDsoft’s Success” at .
Like so many early Tandem developers, Jack started out on the platform because it was a job. But he learned to appreciate the platform’s innovative architecture and fault-tolerant technology, and he was fascinated by the origin story of Tandem and Jimmy Treybig. When he created TANDsoft, short for Tandem Software, Jack focused on consulting because it was a reliable means by which he could support a growing family. Jack oversaw the company’s technical arm, and Amanda ran administration and finance. The goal, however, was to develop products.
Eventually, a first product, OPTA, was introduced at what was then an ITUG (International Tandem User Group) conference. Then came OPTA2000 followed by other NonStop solutions in the categories of interception technology and file replication and synchronization. TANDsoft specializes in interception, which enables the seamless capture of a variety of system and database calls in order to enhance application behaviors. The result is the creation of new application functionality without the need to make source code changes, of particular value when the source code is unavailable.
TANDsoft has exhibited at every U.S.-based NonStop conference since 1996. Whenever Jack and Amanda attend, be they at the NonStop Technical Boot Camp, Connect chapter meetings, HPE Partner symposiums, virtual gatherings such as the new VIRTU-NUG, or others, the greatest value for TANDsoft has been the ability to network with attendees and to collaborate with colleagues in the creation of new products. There is a real family feeling to NonStop events, and the Di Giacomos have made lasting friendships. They consider collaboration and networking to be the backbone of NonStop events, and Jack asserts that some of his best product ideas came from the suggestions of customers and partners. Products such as the OPTA2000 virtual clock- and time-zone simulator; FileSync for automatic file synchronization, replication, and data deduplication; and Sensitive Data Intercept (SDI) for protecting and masking sensitive data-at-rest in Enscribe, SQL/MP, and SQL/MX databases.
TANDsoft’s newest solutions are FS Compare and Repair and FS Backup and Restore. Both had their origins at or right after the 2019 Boot Camp. FS Compare and Repair identifies, reports, and resolves inconsistencies in live and offline databases and is the most rapid compare/repair solution for use in the NonStop environment. FS Backup detects file data-block modifications and archives only the changes. The result? Backup times that normally may take hours are reduced to minutes. FS Restore then can retrieve the saved file data-block modifications and will apply the changes to rebuild the original file.
TANDsoft was incorporated in 1993. Throughout the ensuing years, the NonStop platform has been good to Jack and Amanda. Are they ready to retire? No way. There are still too many NonStop products to create, too much still to learn, and too many opportunities to collaborate and network. Whether Boot Camp 2020 is on-site or virtual, TANDsoft will be in attendance.
