HPE’s 2019 Discover Conference was held last month in Las Vegas, as it is every year. But this year, HPE’s CEO Antonio Neri made what we here at Tributary feel is a very fundamental pledge, to wit, that HPE is committed to delivering the corporation’s entire portfolio as a service by 2022, less than 4 years from now. And we all know 4 years will fly by! Importantly, HPE also announced a partnership with Google Cloud.

In an article published by SDX Central, author Jessica Lyons Hardcastle quotes Mr. Neri: “In the next three years HPE will be a consumption-driven company, everything we deliver to you will be available as a service.” According to the article; “this includes subscription-based software and on-premises infrastructure that customers essentially rent in a pay-per-use model, where HPE manages, automates, and secures these systems for the customer.” Mr. Neri further stated “All of these approaches free up capital.” So it’s “Everything to the Cloud” by 2022, including our preferred NonStop platform.

But you’re a long time NonStop user, running a J-or L-series Converged System, how can you “Free up capital now?”  Do you have choices for Cloud connectivity today? Yes, you do!

Tributary Systems offers our flagship Storage Director, which will provide a simple, cost effective, secure and high performance interface to Public Clouds for archiving and backup operations, eliminating the need for on-premise backup storage infrastructure, be it disk or tape. Storage Director’s extreme backup and restore (Read and Write) performance allows backup data to be written to object storage solutions on public clouds like AWS, Google, Azure and IBM with high speeds. In fact, per node measured performance on Storage Director keeps going up and up.  If the host can push it, Storage Director can now ingest data at 20TB/hour per node and restore at 17TB/hour per node.

Storage Director, when properly configured, has the ability to cache backups on-premise and subsequently send the data to a public cloud.  Storage Director is now certified compatible with Hitachi G350, G600 and G950 storage arrays for use as external cache, in addition to the IBM Storwize V5000, V7000 and HPE P2000. Storage Director can also be configured with internal cache per customer requirements.

Why is caching important? Primarily for two reasons, the caching capability allows for the reduction or elimination of ingress and egress fees, and backups are immediately available on-premise in cache, should any issues arise with restore from the Public Cloud.

Take a moment to review this presentation we’ve created on Storage Director, learn how NonStop users can take advantage of the cloud in a simple, straightforward manner, with no disruption to existing infrastructure.
