Editorial June 2022
As you read this issue of the NonStop Insider it will become obvious that the main thought throughout the articles is the appreciation, relief and enthusiasm for the in-person gatherings. We are all “off the leash” and so happy to be back to seeing our peers, talking with them and sharing an adult beverage or two. Let me point out to you what authors have said – it is really a tribute to the spirit of our NonStop community!
“comforte attended and sponsored the BITUG BIG SIG event held on June 8-9 at Trinity House in London. It was the first face-to-face NonStop event in a long time, and attendees seemed to thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere and the (old or rather renewed) experience of meeting and talking to real people.”
From TCM: “It was obvious to all attendees that the single biggest attraction of this year’s BITUG BIG SIG was the return to an in person event. As much as the NonStop community adapted to ZOOM and TEAMS video experiences there simply is no substitute for meeting in person with all the networking that this makes possible. This was especially evident in the large NonStop contingent who attemded the ‘Beer Bust’ at Brewdog pub the evening before BIG SIG.”
From CSP: “BIG SIG, hosted by the British Isles Tandem User Group, returned for its first in-person event in two years. The conference was held at London’s Trinity House, located in the famous Tower Hill neighborhood. It was great to see everyone in London, and we appreciate all the hard work the organizers put in to ensure a successful return.”
From ETI: “Interacting with the NonStop community has been an integral part of the culture of ETI-NET. It is how we ensure our messages are communicated in a manner that is both unambiguous and relevant for the times. From the days when we joined with other vendors at ITUG Summits ETI-NET has recognized the value that comes with in-person events and now welcomes the decision to return to such a format. Virtual experiences may have their place and out of necessity, given the impact of the global pandemic, filled an otherwise potential information vacuum but it was a poor substitute for the type of events we associate with NonStop.”
From Gravic: “At long last, BITUG was able to reconvene after being canceled for several years due to the COVID pandemic. Attendees enjoyed a reunion among friends, colleagues, and HPE NonStop legends of old. The face-to-face nature of the event enabled interactive dialogue after the presentations, during coffee breaks, and during lunch.”
From Pyalla: “But now, we are back! We are gathering again at events the NonStop community has looked forward to during those two years of isolation. And the question now is what can we expect to experience next? The short answer is that it will not be a return to the pre-pandemic normal we were used to but rather a beginning of something new. We will not be making assumptions the way we used to nor will we treat lightly an opportunity to meet with colleagues.”
From NTI: “There will be additional in-person events as the year progresses with perhaps none more important to the NonStop community then the upcoming NonStop Technical Boot Camp 2022 (NonStopTBC22). A return to Burlingame, California, will provide the NonStop community with numerous opportunities to interact with users, vendors and Connect. For many it will be a celebration of all things that have helped the NonStop community thrive for more than four decades.”
Our NonStop community bond seems to be strong – please do read an article by Bill Honaker, ITUG President, 1996, and see if you are interested in helping preserve our community’s history: “About 14 years ago, when the HP/ITUG Liaison Office closed, the staff there reached out to me to see if there was interest in retaining materials from ITUG conferences past. If you think it’s worth keeping things like this around, and have an idea where they can be kept, please reach out to me, Richard or Margo.”
There are many other topics in this issue’s articles but the overwhelming sense of relief that we are getting back to “normal” is surely on the minds of the community!
