Expect the unexpected

Real Time View Story Telling

Real Time View

AdrianAdrian

A move to Florida surely sets the stage for prolonged warm and balmy weather. A lifestyle that encourages a laidback approach to a haute couture that centers on tee shirts, shorts and flipflops. A lifestyle not just for the wealthy or famous but all encompassing and more often than not a lifestyle known for its consumption of margaritas, tacos and fried everything.

Imagine then hearing weather forecasts for the Florida Panhandle that were more closely associated with the Northen US states – temperatures forecast to drop below freezing with snowfalls likely. As a family that has only recently moved to the sunshine state, having left their winter wardrobe back in Colorado, such news came as a shock. To say it was not anticipated in any way must count as one of the biggest understatements of all time.

It was a phrase uttered back in antiquity by Heraclitus, an ancient Greek philosopher, that I came across that struck an appropriate chord: “If you do not expect the unexpected, you will not find it, for it is not to be reached by search or trail.” Or perhaps, expressed more simply by Oscar Wilde: “To expect the unexpected shows a thoroughly modern intellect.” Anticipation, the unexpected and modern all wrapped up in a series of simple observations.

For the NonStop community entering 2025, perhaps this will be the year where we accept the fact that there will be surprises along the way. Scheduled for the coming summer will be new systems added to the HPE NonStop product portfolio. Unveiled during last year’s NonStop TBC conference in Monterey, “Starship” will arrive with both high-end and entry class models. This was the topic of a post to the NonStop community blog, Real Time View. According to what has been revealed to date, Starship will continue to provide enterprise IT with the only fully integrated, fault tolerant computers on x86 even as they retain the mantle of being the highest level of fault tolerant availability for continuous computing. This mantle of being the ultimate in levels of availability on offer remains unchallenged within the IT industry.

Maintaining its legendary attribute, where nothing written for NonStop in the past needs to be changed as Starship continues the backward compatibility support of solutions with each new system delivered, in 2025 we will likely witness multiple system refreshes, as these latest additions to the product portfolio become available.

Expect considerable marketing effort being expended in support of Starship. In reality, there’s nothing more likely to generate a renewal of enthusiasm for NonStop than the arrival of a new system. They will be faster even as NonStop product management tempers expectations. They will be more secure as well – a welcome addition to HPE NonStop in these times.  However, we should never leave it to just the NonStop team to promote, there is a need among NonStop community members to do their bit – let’s all participate in spreading the news of Starship within our respective environments, be they within an enterprise or a solutions vendor.

The events of last year have demonstrated that social media is overpowering traditional marketing channels. Direct lines of communication with an audience are gaining more traction than ever before. Whatever your popular platform happens to be – LinkedIn, a blog or two, FB or X, take the time to add to the story of NonStop. Nothing generates more attention than a topic that is extensively covered across multiple media channels. This is not to ignore the many global and regional NonStop events planned for 2025 as these provide an ideal where we, as a community, can network and share information with one another.

As we head deeper into 2025 let me encourage you all – speak up for NonStop! The planets may have aligned of late but that might just be a strong indication about just how well new HPE NonStop systems are aligning with HPE NonStop customer requirements. There are plenty of media channels where your voice can be heard. As for Margo and me we have plans that are well formed to be present at the major events in Europe (Dublin in June) and the US (Houston in September). There will be a number of regional events where you will come across us already being discussed and we hope to see many of you as we do our own networking and information sharing. If we truly can’t anticipate the unexpected, there is one thing that you can expect to hear from us and that’s the message of teamwork, partnerships and shared innovation. It will also be a series of supportive messages around modernization and how best to ensure further NonStop participation in today’s world of Hybrid IT.
