Real Time View Story Telling

Adjust, to accommodate needed adjustments!

Real Time View

AdrianAdrian

It sounds so simple. Plans change. Destinations change. Relationships change. And yes, even the weather has been known to change. We are in constant need to make adjustments and in so doing, embrace new practices, new technologies and new markets. This has been a reoccurring theme during the first quarter of 2025. Put another way, does anything look like it did in the past and have we come to terms with reacquainting ourselves with taking deep dives into learning something new. Hitting the books or the keyboard, checking out late-breaking news or simply picking up the phone to listen to colleagues enthusiastically promoting a different point of view?

Here at Pyalla Technologies, LLC, Margo and I are having to make adjustments with how we interact with the NonStop community. Not in any negative sense, don’t get us wrong, but what we had predicted in the past as highly likely appears not to have taken into account just how reluctant the majority of the NonStop community is in accepting that “what worked in the past” may be irrelevant in the future. How many times have we sat through vendor presentations only to walk away, unchallenged by what was conveyed. As we advised one client recently, same-o, same-o may be a reflection of simply staying the course, nothing more.

This past couple of weeks, Margo and I have been challenged to come up with a new marketing campaign for our client, NTI. A refresh of former ideas and an acceptance that the business of disaster recovery is being well looked after, with multiple viable participants offering solutions, and an appreciation for what NTI really is – a NonStop vendor focused on data. More precisely, the movement of data.

For as long as we have been counselling NonStop vendors and providing messaging along the lines of, data is the new oil, or gold, or gemstones, and so forth but always, transitioning to where the focus on data becomes more a supporting act to the main show, the existing product portfolio. However, in the case of NTI, it has always been about data and, following reexamination, through replication the movement of data is central to everything appearing in the NTI product portfolio.

In the case of NTI, recognition and the subsequent adjustment has been easy to do as the company retains its own sales force and marketing teams and in so doing, maintains a one-to-one relationship with NonStop customers and prospects. There is no filtering or dilution as a result of intermediaries. One of the downsides of appearing on the NonStop price book, it turns out, is that participating NonStop vendors are becoming suppliers to the NonStop sales team and as such, often are late to the party in understanding NonStop customer requirements.

Is it possible, it may be argued, that the trade-off in costs associated with supporting sales and marketing teams with line-of-sight visibility, customer to vendor, a worthy compromise? Not all participants in this arrangement have abandoned direct sales and marketing, as I am sure we all know, but the temptation to do so remains.

Wherein lies the catch; is making adjustments later in the relationship should changes to policy or practices or even simple promotion changes. It’s only independent NonStop vendors who don’t need the participation of a weatherman to know which way the wind is blowing? Intermediaries may be cost effective but if they prove a disruption in the information flow between NonStop customer and NonStop vendor, then yes, there is a pronounced downside. What NTI has found is that across a landscape where digital transformation, modernization, embracing hybrid IT and even, bringing the cloud experience inhouse, represents opportunities to enhance solutions focused on data.

Replication, it turns out is not the endgame but is the new starting line for what is now headed the way of NonStop. Which trend is driving this fresh look at replication? Is it in fact digital transformation, modernization, embracing hybrid IT or bringing the cloud experience to you? In practice, it’s fair to respond, all of the above. Having put a toe in the water in support of JDBC (replicating to open databases including Oracle) and JSON (replication to open processes including Splunk, Kafka and more), NTI is pursuing greater integration with open processes, bypassing any intermediary steps including additional external servers.

The new messaging? For NTI it is now NTI: your data company along with DRNet®: your journey to discovery. Simple, and yet, compelling and now with the first implementations explored and subsequently purchased by NonStop customers, it is becoming clearer that adjusting to accommodate changes is the hallmark of those NonStop vendors with widespread direct engagement with the NonStop customer community. And before adjustment, comes observation and observation requires direct contact.

NTI will not be alone in this regard as Margo and I have talked to others and we understand that many are moving that way. Rather, NTI is just the poster-child for what is taking place within the NonStop vendor community. In articles, posts and commentaries from Pyalla in 2025, expect to see even greater coverage of the adjustments NonStop vendors are preparing to make. As for the NonStop customer looking to digital transformation, modernization, embracing hybrid IT or bringing the cloud experience inhouse, then they can rest easy assured in the knowledge that once again, the door to new opportunities to explore options available has now flung wide open!
