2021. What an interesting year. With the world turned upside down by a pandemic that seemingly had its sights set on...
Data must be fresh, clean and safe before contributions to the enterprise materialize
ETI-NET

The start of a new year is always a time worth celebrating. It is midway through the first calendar quarter and the excitement remains. What will be the event or conversation that leads to new endeavors? What market condition will further accelerate change? No matter where we turn, be that AI, Quantum or simply further advances in Cloud Services provisioning, there is no shortage of topics to excite even the most jaded IT professional.
Perhaps there is no single topic to match Hybrid IT that captures the attention of a greater audience. Simply expressed, there are very few IT deployments today that are not hybrid. The concept of a singular vendor solution operating in total isolation today is an anomly and far removed from the reality of heterogenous deployments. Nowhere is this more evident than when it comes to data storage and the manner about which we go to protect data.
It has been well covered in the past how data is the new oil, or gold, or something even more precious as a means to project the importance of data. The role of fresh, clean, safe data is the engine of the enterprise and sets the direction of the company. Gaining in popularity today is the need to feed AI models where the math involved can be very complex and yet, NonStop owns the touchpoint with end users where data is created. Whether it is with their interactions with their customers, suppliers, regulatory authorities, shareholders and more, without accurate and timely data, the enterprise will be hard-pressed to perform in a legitmate, unchallenged manner.
“We have been sensitive to the changing demands of the enterprise when it comes to what we see as hybird deployments,” said Mike Mitsch, ETI-NET Director, Business Development. “Whether it is with our batch scheduling, our monitoring support or our backup and restore products, it is all about the data. Scheduling the timely movement of data, visualizing the potentiality of attacks on data and ensuring data is protected through regular backups, ETI-NET remains the leader in all things data related.”
With ETI-NET MultiBatch, there is the separation of duties offering enhanced protection from potential internal compromises as well with the new release, enhanced job change reporting, required by auditors. Critical tasks are divided among administration and operations, preventing any single person from having complete control. With enhanced change control, job schedules are now tracked as part of the change control, auditors seek to approve changes. These new fetures mitigates the risk of insider threats, errors, malicious activity and restoration. This leaves the NonStop customer assured that with MultiBatch, no one person has the ability to perform all steps of a critical process alone, ensuring checks and balances are in place. Where your enterprise requires fresh, clean, safe data for batch processing like invoices and monthly reports MultiBatch assures your enterprise that this is exactly what will be delivered.
When it comes to ETI-NET Sentinel, “There has been a history of monitoring and management products available to the NonStop community. Consider today how Sentinel has continued to evolve even as we have witnessed many changes across the NonStop line of servers; it’s not surprising to read of just how valuable Sentinel has proved to be to those NonStop customers,” said Mike Mitsch. “It has become harder to refute how Sentinel is now a heavyweight contender to any monitoring product in the NonStop landscape. With the inclusion of Sentinel in the ETI-NET product portfolio, ETI-NET demonstrates just how modern the company has become, continuing to be as relevant today as ever, even against the most established product offerings in this segment of the market.”
We have produced a number of fireside chats and videos for both MultiBatch and Sentinel:

More recently, additional emphasis has been given to ETI-NET BackBox and in particular to QoreStor support for storage tiering. When it comes to storage tiering it is all about supporting the practice of taking specific backup data (that is unlikely to change or be accessed) and replicating it to a variety of advanced object storage solutions (which can be delivered as a service in public or private clouds). When storage tiering is used, NonStop estates can not only deliver long-term retention of selected backup data, new levels of restoration become possible satisfying a wide array of use cases, including clean rooms, all transparent to the NonStop, while taking advantage of lower pricing.
Through ETI-NET’s BackBox® with integrated QoreStor®, NonStop clients can realize these benefits with little intervention. Any strategy involving storage tiering needs to be secure and mindful of costs. Through QoreStor’s advanced algorithms, data that is tiered is not only encrypted, it’s also compressed and deduplicated ensuring the highest levels of data protection as well as cost savings. The less data there is to move from one tier to the next, combined with the lowest the overall cost for storage and transfer. Using best in class Software Defined Storgae algorithms, ETI-NET BackBox with QoreStor scans the data and does not write blocks that have already been stored. It replaces the blocks with pointers to similar, backed-up data, and the pointer is used to rehydrate the deduplicated data later without retrieval reducing network traffic. By combining deduplication with storage tiering – on-premises or through private or public cloud – paves the way to lower pricing with shorter retrieval time.
For a more definitive description of just how effective BackBox is in bringing storage tiering to the NonStop community and in so doing, provides a beneficial cost reduction option, check out the latest article just published on the ETI-NET website –

These ETI-NET products in support of batch scheduling, our monitoring support or our backup and restore products will be the subject of presentations to be made this year around the world. A full list of where you will see us is in the process of being finalized and for now, the following template is a good guide as to where we will be a participant in such NonStop focused events.

If you are already making plans to attend one of these events then we look forward to having you drop by for a conversation. We certainly would like to hear from you. At these events you will see updates from ETI-NET experts on all these aspects of ensuring your NonStop data is fresh, clean and safe and you will learn more about these important members of the ETI-NET product portfolio. Should you happen to miss us you can always find us through the use of the contact information, below.
