Continuity and Innovation:
Future-Ready Security for HPE Nonstop

In early October, the PCI Security Standards Council published new guidance on securing AI in payments. As technological innovation continues to propel businesses forward, it’s yet another sign of the constantly shifting risk and compliance landscape. For cyber professionals on the front lines, the threat to enterprise data stores remains acute.

Finding an effective way to mitigate such a threat while supporting business growth has never been easy. HPE Nonstop customers need advanced solutions to protect their organization from emerging data security risks. But they also demand continuity to minimize disruption to business-critical infrastructure.

Cybersecurity is getting harder

HPE Nonstop customers have long been in the firing line. Cybercriminals and nation states covet customer and operational data for different reasons. But they use the same tools and techniques to reach it. Incidents like the recent breach at UK retailer ASOS prove that threat levels remain elevated. When all it takes is one compromised password to access sensitive data stores, the focus must be on protecting the data itself.

However, the problem for HPE Nonstop security teams is that many of the systems which rely on the platform have a long operational life. That makes security challenging. How can you ensure protection is future-ready without requiring rip-and-replace efforts that create intolerable operational risk?

Tech innovation creates new risks
Several trends are compounding these challenges. Cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) might emerge as early as 2029, according to Google. And “harvest now, decrypt later” (HNDL) attacks may already be hoovering up data with a view to unscrambling it when those machines arrive. That should make post-quantum cryptography (PQC) an urgent priority for financial institutions and other custodians of long-lived, highly sensitive information.

Yet with no native PQC solution for the SSH and SSL/TLS channels that secure critical access paths on the platform, HPE Nonstop customers are in a bind.

CISOs also fret about their key and certificate management. Research reveals that only a third (34%) of organizations achieve full certificate visibility. But you can’t secure or manage what you can’t see. Keys are often stored in silos on individual servers, sometimes in clear text, and policy is decentralized.

Manual management and rotation of keys and certs increase the risk of downtime and human error, while adding to IT overheads. Amplifying these challenges, industry standards for TLS/SSL certificate rotation are set to fall from 200 days in 2026 to 100 next year and 47 days by 2029, meaning more frequent rotations. And as PQC efforts gather pace, more organizations will adopt crypto/PQC hybrids, increasing complexity and key/cert volumes.

This doesn’t just create security risk. It increases operational and compliance risk too if auditors cannot get a single source of truth across the estate. PCI DSS 4.0, NIS2 and GDPR all demand verifiable key governance, multifactor authentication (MFA) and audit trails. Doing nothing is not an option.

Building on a trusted foundation

For HPE Nonstop customers, security innovation should build on proven technology, not come at the expense of operational continuity. TAMUNIO represents the natural next generation of comforte’s established data security capabilities, continuing to help organizations discover, classify and protect their most sensitive data, wherever it resides or travels.

Building on this foundation, TAMUNIO Assure introduces additional capabilities specifically designed to address emerging cryptographic and operational challenges. It provides a seamless, drop-in upgrade to SSH and SSL, supporting both classical and post-quantum cryptography without requiring script or code changes.

Assure also delivers automated certificate lifecycle management to support shorter certificate lifetimes and dual-certificate requirements with minimal additional IT overhead. Centralized, HSM-backed key and secrets management eliminates clear-text key storage, reduces key sprawl and simplifies compliance through audit-ready logs.

Forward with agility

It’s a platform designed with HPE Nonstop at its heart. Centralized monitoring and reporting to strengthen audit trails. An API-first and cloud-native approach to do away with costly and complex integrations. And quantum-safe protection that follows enterprise data wherever it goes.

This isn’t just about reducing risk. It’s about delivering a foundation for growth as HPE Nonstop organizations evolve their business for a new AI-ready age. That’s why TAMUNIO offers Data Sovereignty Zones for use cases where data must be processed in plaintext, such as training AI models. And it’s why we offer tokenization, so that customers can use data in powerful cloud-based analytics tools without sacrificing security.

Today’s technology landscape is arguably changing faster than at any point in the past two decades. Amid this tremendous volatility, trusted partnerships provide the confidence businesses need to thrive.
