There are many topics discussed in this issue of the NonStop Insider. I think that this issue is centered around the changes and methods to address them in Nonstop Customers’ environments.

From BITUG BIG SIG and onto TBC 2026
TCM supports the Nonstop community

The topic of how best to manage the data center where the Nonstop servers/systems are present: the question is whether to leave with a generalized MSP operative or leave the management of the Nonstop system to MSP specialists. If you want to find out more read the TCM article, which contains this paragraph: “These observations and more are covered in a new white paper by Andy Vasey, ‘Is your ‘One-Stop Shop’ Managed Service Putting your HPE Nonstop Environment at Risk?’ available shortly for downloading from the TCM website.”

The other important topic TCM is addressing is how to make the Nonstop community be more available for in-person gatherings. “As for the BITUG BIG SIG, according to TCM’s Collin Yates, ‘as a long time BITUG Committee member (current Treasurer), I am concerned about how viable it is becoming to maintain hosting in-person events like BIG SIG. Perhaps a different location other than London would be an option – as we look at whether ‘London’ (and the high cost of putting on events in general), has slowed the growth in event attendance.’”

Read the article, it contains interesting quotes and thoughts and Richard talks about availability and fault tolerance! “This has always been a pet peeve of senior members of the Nonstop community. It’s as if the availability attribute was being discounted even called legacy. Forgotten by almost all new entrants into providing technology solutions. Being witness to such renewed enthusiasm among Nonstop team members is not only encouraging but sounds a loud, clarion-call to all of us. As we leave Nonstop events, we become the champions of this message and the hope among all of us is that this message never losses appeal. Even among the most jaded of IT executives. It’s a message that with the coming of AI, can only cement the presence of Nonstop in enterprises worldwide!”

It seems that, every day, a vendor unveils their latest offerings in support of AI but with uLinga Nexus, it is all about unlocking the hidden value of your data that lies, freshly created, within Nonstop. Safe to say, exposing hidden value comes with a caveat: explained by Andrew Price, Infrasoft, Director Business Operations, as published in The Connection, May – June 2026:

“When AI vendors talk about “unlocking your data” it’s worth being precise about what that actually means in a Nonstop context. The value isn’t simply in the data these systems hold. It’s in what the systems do with that data – the rules, the workflows, the carefully constructed transaction flows that sit behind every Pathway server class. Exposing raw data to an AI platform without that context produces mediocre results at best and introduces governance risk at worst.”

Read about a new approach to products support:The latest release of uLinga for Kafka now ships with an AI diagnosis skill — a machine-readable troubleshooting reference that customers can supply to any AI assistant to diagnose trace files, log messages, and configuration issues. The skill covers module identification, error and event codes, Kafka protocol errors, and step-by-step playbooks for common failure scenarios, and is compatible with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and similar tools.”

And later in the announcement: “Traditionally, diagnosing a problem from a uLinga trace file required Infrasoft or reseller support to interpret the trace internals by hand. The AI diagnosis skill removes that bottleneck.”

From Keith Moore, Distinguished Technologist at HPE:
Agility is Stability

Please read the article as Keith is opening his Op-Ed with an observation that may seem controversial – until you keep reading further. “As I leverage AI, mostly for rudimentary research and software development, I have learned many things beyond the scope of a brief article or even a long white paper! However, there is one big take-away from the improvements to systems developers and operations.  What was once considered ‘agile’ in both the software lifecycle sense and in the literal business agility, is now aggressively less stable. Stability is a fundamental characteristic of Nonstop.” Keith is ending first paragraph with “On the other hand, these new capabilities also greatly improve Nonstop agility – something Nonstop is not known for.” Interested? I hope you are, as it is a very new approach to explain stability and a concept of agile in the Nonstop context.

From a Richard Buckle OpEd:
How fast is fast?

Read this OpEd, you may find it informative and interesting. To give you just a taste of it: “However, there’s one more critical factor to consider when thinking of speeds and feeds. It’s less so about feeds these days as it has more to do with latency. If indeed, as has been championed of late, we launch data centers into space, there will be the likelihood that latency will play a role and perhaps restrict the performance from space to applications that are less about learning and inference and more about car parts and financial ledgers. Or, maybe not. Fast will always be fast but, for the Nonstop community concerned about ensuring data created on Nonstop is ingested into Large Language Models (and avoid unnecessary hallucinations due to incomplete data), such improved speeds with lower latency will become important considerations.”

As Richard always does, he brings a sudden twist to the otherwise serious article when he ends with: “Suddenly, where I feel the need for speed may not be as outrageous a request as Hollywood would suggest, but rather, be all the incentive we need to plug Nonstop into the ultra-high-speed networks forging a presence in our daily IT lives!

Yes, quoting another from Hollywood, let’s “Make it so!” For certainly, as we all have come to understand from working with Nonstop, it should be just as easy to add, “This is the way!”

The article contains the section “highlights”, where it says: “System migrations are often viewed as technical projects, but in mission-critical environments they are business-risk events that have direct impacts on operations, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance.

Modernizing Cryptography: A New Approach for a Persistent Problem

The article addresses the always changing outlook to when the changes to the encryption as we know it need to be addressed. “Just last year, it was thought that the world had until around 2035 before cryptographically relevant quantum computers (CRQCs) would finally emerge. But within the past few months everything has changed.

First Google, and then Cloudflare shortened their respective timescales to 2029. Now Microsoft has joined IBM in predicting it will release a fault-tolerant quantum computer in the same year.    For any organization relying on asymmetric encryption, “Q-Day” may represent an existential moment of cyber risk. But an accelerated timeframe for replacing their ciphers is not the only challenge facing HPE Nonstop customers”. The article then goes on to tell readers that there is a way to get ready for the change!

Please read the article – it is not long and it points you to the whole story residing on the NuWave’s home page. Just a taste of the story: “as the industry moves toward dramatically shorter TLS certificate lifespans. With certificate validity set to shrink from 398 days today to just 47 days by 2029, organizations that rely on manual processes face growing operational strain, increased risk of outages, and mounting compliance challenges”. Deeper into the text: “The piece also introduces NuWave’s purpose-built Certificate Lifecycle Management solution for Nonstop, designed to integrate with enterprise PKI systems while meeting the platform’s unique operational requirements.”
