Issue 9.3 Editorial

AdrianAdrian

Editorial February 2025

There are many fantastic articles in this first of 2025 issue of the NonStop Insider – I am sure you will enjoy reading them all.

Let me highlight what’s in them so that you will dive right in!

In Justin Simond’s article “On HPE and How NonStop Will Continue” you will read

Justin’s experiences through the years and of talking with other systems’ developers – please read as these are the pearls of knowledge, we are slowly losing …

Justin then turns to the topic of who will carry the button going forward and he writes: “For those familiar with the “NonStop under 40” group, this is being redesigned and will be known as “New to NonStop” which I believe is a better title. In a discussion with Shauna, I learned that ‘New to NonStop’ will soon have a LinkedIn page where those who are new to the platform can find information, links and also be assigned a mentor”.

In the Justin’s fashion he finishes with “As Jimmy would say, it’s Excitin’. For those “New to NonStop” you need to Google Jimmy Treybig”.

TCM’s article says:

“The value proposition of NonStop continues and it is proving difficult to discount. Being almost as good as NonStop doesn’t come close to being NonStop and the many “glitches and technical faults” that routinely appear in the news are a reminder of why NonStop remains as relevant today as it was at any time in the past. The value proposition comes as a result of NonStop delivering on its attributes right out of the box, with no need for layering complex infrastructure software to make it all work.”

Then TCM proposes: “At TCM we see that the attributes of NonStop contribute to its legendary status. With this in mind, we are stepping up our presence in NonStop community events worldwide. TCM knows that challenges lie ahead and the onus is on us to bring to market the services that best enhance the capabilities, indeed longevity of NonStop within an enterprise.”

Gravic writes about new features brought now to the Shadowbase offering:

“In the January/February issue of The Connection we announced two new synchronization facilities: HPE Shadowbase Zero Data Loss and HPE Shadowbase DoLockStep Synchronization Facility. Our Development Team has been hard at work and is excited to announce that both of these Synchronization Facilities are now released under Controlled Availability”

NTI writes about a new and exciting program:

“Become a member of the NTI’s 2% Club. Enjoy a superior experience even as the program includes new destinations previously unserved by other NonStop vendors. Unhappy with what you have and would like to move away from destinations no longer attracting travelers or simply wanting to leave journeys that never end, NTI has the solution. DRNet®/Unified is not simply another product. Like all good expanded customer experience programs, NTI provides considerable perks.”

In the article NTI, Inc. and Infrasoft Pty. Limited announce the
availability of upgraded support for Kafka with Bidirectional Streaming
we can read: “NTI and Infrasoft are pleased to announce the bidirectional support for Kafka distributed data streaming platform. An extension to the DRNet® product suite, this new addition of Kafka support may be sold standalone or into existing DRNet® environments. This represents another chapter in the modernization of NonStop, even as it confirms the value both vendors place on open-source software.”

ETI-NET writes:

“The role of fresh, clean, safe data is the engine of the enterprise and sets the direction of the company. Gaining in popularity today is the need to feed AI models where the math involved can be very complex and yet, NonStop owns the touchpoint with end users where data is created.”

Article contains a quote by Mike Mitsch: ‘We have been sensitive to the changing demands of the enterprise when it comes to what we see as hybird deployments,’ said Mike Mitsch, ETI-NET Director, Business Development. ‘Whether it is with our batch scheduling, our monitoring support or our backup and restore products, it is all about the data. Scheduling the timely movement of data, visualizing the potentiality of attacks on data and ensuring data is protected through regular backups, ETI-NET remains the leader in all things data related.’”

TIC’s article talks about the modernazation:

“Incremental and continuous modernization allows you to leverage NonStop’s strengths by maintaining its reliability, fault tolerance, and scalability while seamlessly integrating modern tools. This approach preserves business value by addressing specific obstacles without treating NonStop applications as problems to be eliminated. By modernizing incrementally and continuously, you reduce risk, control costs, and maintain business continuity throughout the process.”

Richard Buckle in his opinion article What manifests itself is before me starts with:

There is a phrase from a popular book, later the script for a film, The Art of Racing in the Rain. A captivating, indeed popular, story featuring a Golden Retriever named Enzo. ‘That which we manifest is before us’ and, for me, a quote that resonated strongly at the time of reading and continues to do so even today. This phrase highlights that whatever it is that will become obvious may already be visible. That is, if you are paying attention. What becomes evident may be hidden and yet, it’s hard to miss.’” I am biased, since I love that book!

CSP in the article Digital Resilience & Vulnerability Management For NonStop Systems explains the importance of dealing with the vulnerabilities and understanding where you see them in your system. “CSP understands enterprises must continuously check their NonStop systems for inconsistencies, so we developed CSP Vulnerability Scanner v3.0, an easy-to-use vulnerability scanning and reporting tool for NonStop Systems”. Read the article and click on an offer of “Free Evaluation of CSP Vulnerability Scanner v3.0, an easy-to-use vulnerability scanning and reporting tool for NonStop Systems.”

NuWave’s article is as its title says: Understanding ISO 8583 and ISO 20022:
The Evolution of Financial Messaging Standards
.” There is a pointer in the text to the full blown article on this subject, too.

Lusis Payments article by Brian Miller, General Manager, Lusis Paymentss starts with: “As we step into 2025, Lusis Payments is thrilled to announce a wave of new customers converting their legacy payment systems to our flagship solution, TANGO. This marks a significant milestone in our mission to transform the global payments landscape, providing cutting-edge technology and unparalleled adaptability to businesses worldwide”. Read into which areas of Payments TANGO is entering.

OmniPayments is clearly very busy! Craig Lawrance writes: “OmniPayments continues to invest in the R&D required to stay ahead of the game, leveraging AI as we go.  It’s certainly a topic of conversation and we will be touching on this topic at our upcoming events this year is 2025.  Other topics include DORA, Agile rollout, tokenization for mobile phone support, PCI DSS 4+, Cloud-based payment services, short speed of deployment, Virtual Cards, Contactless technology, QR-code support, interfacing with over 50 payment networks. We’ll have OmniSplunk and OmniKafka on display, our database integration, our Tuxedo migration skills.”

And then there is an article by Richard Buckle, Real Time View Story Telling, with the byline: Expect the unexpected, and I particularly want to bring your attention to Buckle’s call to action: “As we head deeper into 2025 let me encourage you all – speak up for NonStop! The planets may have aligned of late but that might just be a strong indication about just how well new HPE NonStop systems are aligning with HPE NonStop customer requirements. There are plenty of media channels where your voice can be heard.”
