Gravic Describes a Groundbreaking Release that Eliminates Data Loss

Gravic

Gravic recently published the article: Refining Data Integrity by Eliminating Data Loss in the May-June issue of The Connection. Within the article the release of Shadowbase version 7.000 is highlighted as well as the importance of the features it contains. Up until this point all HPE NonStop data replication products use asynchronous data replication technology (with the exception of RDF/ZLT which is a special case we would be happy to discuss with you). Shadowbase Zero Data Loss, however, uses synchronous data replication technology. This means no more data at risk of being lost should the source system become unavailable.

For mission critical systems, losing any amount of data for any amount of time can potentially have catastrophic consequences. Consider critical healthcare services such as dosing information. Losing that information can put patients’ lives at risk. For most people, when a source fails or becomes inaccessible, it is often eventually recoverable, and the data remains intact. But what about the time it takes to recover the data, and those cases when it is not recoverable? Where do you get the data from then? The simple fact is that many customers have never experienced a sudden catastrophic event that resulted in the ultimate loss of a source system and data.

However, ZDL isn’t just about data loss, it’s also about data availability. For most mission critical applications data availability is key. It is important to ask: how long can this mission-critical data remain inaccessible? Some applications cannot (or should not) go live without full, correct, consistent, and complete information after a catastrophic failure. If your data matters, Shadowbase Zero Data Loss software is a solution that can help. It removes the potential for committed data loss during catastrophic loss of the source environment and subsequent failover to the backup.

In a similar vein, Gravic is working on an important new feature called Shadowbase DoLockStep. This new synchronization facility is being designed to allow the customer’s application to coordinate its processing with the Shadowbase asynchronous data replication engine to ensure that data is actually delivered and safe-stored at the target. The new Shadowbase DoLockStep solution is being designed as a direct replacement for customers using RDF’s DoLockStep functionality, and includes additional enhancements.

Gravic Presents on HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience at N2TUG, NYTUG, CTUG, and eBITUG
Gravic presented at the N2TUG meeting held in Hilton’s Hurst Conference Center near Dallas. Paden Holenstein, Product Manager, provided an HPE Shadowbase overview and an update on our developing Data Recovery solution for Digital Resilience. After presenting on these evolving requirements, he also reviewed key innovations and investments in HPE Shadowbase, including Zero Data Loss and Heterogeneous Compare.

The 2025 NYTUG event, held on May 13th in Berkeley Heights, NJ, and CTUG 2025, held in the HPE Office in Mississauga, were fantastic successes, bringing together multiple customers, vendors, and HPE for a day of insightful presentations, valuable networking, and engaging discussions. This year’s presentations centered around critical industry themes, including Digital Resilience, Data Security, Data Compliance, and Artificial Intelligence. Gravic contributed with a presentation on HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience for HPE NonStop Systems. Attendees were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and participating in vibrant discussions throughout the day. A big thank-you to everyone who attended and helped make NYTUG and CTUG 2025 such great successes. We are already looking ahead to future gatherings that promise to bring us all together again.

This year’s eBITUG at the Clayton Hotel on Burlington Road turned out to be one of the most epic shows in a very long time. Paul Holenstein co-led the advanced training session, Mastering DORA Immutability Compliance for HPE NonStop Systems: A Comprehensive Guide. This in-depth course examined the new DORA (Digital Operational Resilience Act) immutability requirements and demonstrated how ETI-NET BackBox and Gravic Shadowbase Q-Files can work together to create immutable, recoverable backups for NonStop environments that can be leveraged for a ransomware recovery solution.
Ken Scudder presented the plenary session, HPE Shadowbase Solutions for High Availability and Digital Resilience. Ken invited several guest speakers to the stage, including René Wogg from CSX software, Kevin Poultney from Brightstrand International, and Daniel Craig from TCM to discuss our key partnerships and areas. Gravic was pleased to award Rick Stather from TCM with our Shadowbase Hall of Fame award for several successful deployments of HPE Shadowbase around the globe.
On Thursday, Paden Holenstein presented HPE Shadowbase Digital Resilience for Ransomware Protection and Data Recovery. Paden addressed how regulatory mandates, such as the EU’s Digital Operational Resilience Act (DORA), are reshaping compliance expectations and technology strategies.
In addition, Casey Taylor and Ian Inglis from HPE announced the release of the Starship platform. We congratulate HPE for this milestone event!
