Simplified Backup Solution

Coming off a series of highly successful HPE Nonstop Compute events held across the Western Hemisphere with CTUG having been the latest, it was the E-BITUG European Nonstop Symposium where we saw the biggest gathering of the Nonstop Compute community. We had gone into this event in Dublin with high expectations and we weren’t disappointed. Central to our message for the second half of 2025 remained our file and data backup solutions and enjoyed the many conversations on backup that the conference created. When it comes to the Nonstop Compute community there are challenges just as there are solutions and cost savings that Nonstop customers have come to expect from HPE and ETI-NET.

The Challenge 

A leading enterprise faced an urgent need to upgrade its existing backup solution to ensure uninterrupted data protection and operational continuity. With critical systems relying on HPE Nonstop environments, the organization required a seamless transition to a new solution without compromising performance or security.

The Solution 

To meet these demanding requirements, the organization deployed a robust backup and storage solution— ETI-NET’s BackBox® with Integrated QoreStor®. This implementation provided seamless data protection, advanced storage management, and secure, high-speed connectivity across their HPE Nonstop environments.

Comprehensive Backup and Storage Infrastructure

Production Solution Overview:

• Virtual Tape Controllers (VTCs): Four HPE VTCs were deployed on ProLiant servers
• Storage Capacity: Up to 64TB of physical (~640TB logical w/Deduplication) locally integrated storage
• Software Deployment: BackBox (VTC Management Console & User Interface) operates within a Windows environment, while QoreStor runs as a virtual machine (VM) on a Hyper-V platform, ensuring efficient use of existing infrastructure.
• Connectivity: Each appliance features six Fibre Channel (FC) connections
• Access Management: Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) facilitates secure and controlled access to BackBox, QoreStor, and NonStop environments for authorized personnel.
• Remote Monitoring: HPE Integrated Remote Support (IRS) provides continuous infrastructure monitoring for each VTC, allowing proactive issue detection and streamlined maintenance.
