NonStop Insider

April Editorial

DanDan

In the April issue of the NonStop Insider you will find quite a few articles from the community thoughts leaders! Randall Becker and Bill Honaker are back with an update on ITUGLIB. Dean Malone, who spent time working close to the NonStop kernel back in the days of Tandem brings us first part of the two parts article on the topic of InfiniBand Wish List for the NonStop X. Keith Dick, whom you may remember from the old Tandem Distributed Systems Management (DSM) days and whom you often see commenting and answering questions in NonStop related LinkedIn groups brings us some answers to the question – where to look when you need help with your NonStop system?

Richard Buckle explains how the Pyalla Technologies business model emerged as vendors and users alike continued to look for even greater insight into all things NonStop, and in the HPE Corner he discusses the meaning of the HPE quarterly results and Meg’s comments that followed.

Of course you will also see articles from the Nonstop vendors. Striim and InfaSoft (with bomBora) continue to see coverage coming directly from HPE and that in itself is an encouraging sign as both vendors are right out there on the leading edge when it comes to embracing future trends many within HPE see as being extremely relevant for NonStop. When it comes to the topic of trends and important technology developments that are influencing NonStop, the vendor community enjoyed time in Palo Alto this month as HPE NonStop once again held the NonStop Partner Symposium. Much of what was covered was under nondisclosure, of course, and some vendors did comment in their articles included in this issue of NonStop Insider on just how grateful they are to HPE and to NonStop for setting aside time to update the NonStop vendor community.

What’s missing from NonStop Insider (and we still working on it), are contributions from NonStop customers. While it is common knowledge that under current corporate governance, companies find it difficult to write about their experiences, we are nonetheless hopeful we can direct the spotlight on some of them and give the NonStop community a little more insight into the business value they see in continuing to build out their deployment of NonStop systems.

As I look at social media, Facebook particularly, I see that many of the people involved working in NonStop have very interesting, and somewhat unexpected, hobbies and passions after they momentarily stop or pause their NonStop life. Take Randy Meyers, Vice President & General Manager, Mission Critical Systems at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, is with IHONC, Ice Hockey Officials of Northern California, and has been a hockey referee forever! Kevin McDowell, Section Manager at HPE, likes to fly planes when he does not do NonStop. Ex- Tandemites Hal Masey, Chris Rooke, Mike Plum, Tributary Systems, Inc.’s CEO, Sean Sabanayagam, and of course Pyalla Technologies’ Richard Buckle and myself like to drive cars fast on a track. Karen Copeland, Manager, HPE NonStop Product Management, loves cats and takes time to care for them. Going forward, I’d like to ask you to share with the NonStop community – what is your passion, what do you do “after NonStop!”

I hope you enjoy April issue of the NonStop Insider and as always, please direct any comments to:
