TANDsoft Sees Continued Customer Adoption,
Releases Latest Version of FS Compare and Repair

In recent months, TANDsoft has achieved some significant results, including delivering a new release to the company’s flagship solution, netting new customer wins, and making breakthrough performance gains.

Read on to learn more about the solution, the latest enhancements, and recent customer successes.

Introducing FS Compare and Repair

FS Compare and Repair is our flagship solution. The solution offers advanced, block-level hashing technology that is capable of delivering the fastest, most scalable file comparison and repair capabilities to HPE NonStop customers.

FS Compare and Repair can be employed in environments in which a production server is being compared against a disaster recovery system. In addition, the solution offers support for active/active environments in which updates need to go in both directions.

With this offering, customers can validate and repair large volumes of NonStop data, significantly reducing operational downtime and enhancing data integrity. Here are some of the solution’s key features:

In addition, TANDsoft solutions are now available via HPE GreenLake. HPE GreenLake features an array of cloud and as-a-service solutions that are available on a pay-as-you-go basis. Now, your organization can access leading TANDsoft solutions like FS Compare and Repair through the HPE GreenLake edge-to-cloud platform.

Customer Momentum, Breakthrough Results

FS Compare and Repair continues to be the solution of choice for an increasing number of enterprises around the world. Most recently, a US-based insurance firm and a European financial market infrastructure organization have been added to the list of FS Compare and Repair customers.

By adopting FS Compare and Repair, these enterprises see fast, significant results. Our partnership with a global technology provider offers a vivid illustration of the power of the solution.

In the past, this company’s IT organization had used an enterprise software vendor’s data comparison and repair tool. While the solution was purported to provide high performance, the reality was that it was taking 12 weeks for the tool to complete a full comparison cycle of all the production data in their NonStop environment.

After a review of the solutions available, the team selected FS Compare and Repair.  FS Compare and Repair is architected and optimized for running on NonStop systems, and it offers block-level comparison functionality that yields optimized performance and throughput. Instead of 12 weeks, this meant they were able to complete entire comparison cycles in about a week. By dramatically reducing cycle times for database object comparisons, they can now better ensure their disaster recovery environments remain in synch—significantly reducing the risk of data loss and integrity issues.

Introducing the Latest Release: FS Compare and Repair, Release 6.1

One of the strengths of FS Compare and Repair is its ability to handle comparisons of large data sets, including those with many partitions. FS Compare and Repair, release 6.1, builds on these breakthrough advantages. One of the most important new capabilities that have been added with this release is key range hashing support.

In previous versions of the solution, when a key file discrepancy was spotted, some delay  was introduced due to the pausing of subsequent block processing. For example, for simplicity’s sake, imagine you have a 26 block partition, with each block having keys of one specific letter, ie one for “a,” one for “b,” and so on. Imagine an insert happened in the source that hadn’t yet made it to the target in a specific block within the “c” key range. The solution would identify the discrepancy, perform a retry, then move to processing d, e, and so on.

With smaller files, these slight inefficiencies wouldn’t amount to any significant difference. However in some cases, these delays and retries can be meaningful. This includes environments that don’t have an online replicator in place. This can also include implementations that have online replication running and that have very large, very active, multi-partitioned files. In these environments, false positives and true discrepancies may arise.

Introducing Key Range Hashing

The solution now features support for a “ByKeyRange” command, which enables  hashing by key range. This command can be employed in any key sequenced files and tables, including those in Enscribe, SQL/MP, and SQL/MX.

Key ranges for multiple partitions can be processed in parallel. Within each range, processing  occurs across multiple key-range blocks. This reduces the delays and retries that are required when processing key discrepancies.

Ultimately, this latest release builds on the solution’s massive performance and scalability advantages, providing even greater speed and efficiency to a broader range of customer environments and applications.

Additional Features Available in Release 6.1

In addition, release 6.1 provides several additional enhancements. For example, the solution now supports descending keys.

The latest release  also offer enhanced temporary work file hygiene. As part of ongoing processing, the solution creates temporary input and output work files. In prior versions, if a compare and repair process was interrupted, those files would be left behind, potentially creating ongoing maintenance and storage challenges. Now, during ongoing processing, the solution will automatically identify and remove any unnecessary temporary files that may be created. Further, a cleanup utility is now also provided that enables users to remove older temporary work files.
