Revolution, Nonstop!

It’s already been a busy spring full of Regional NonStop meetings held for Connect this year. On May 6nd, N2TUG held our 2027 meeting. Once again this year, it was held at the Hurst Conference Center in Hurst Texas, not very far from D/FW Airport.

It was 50 years ago that a small upstart computer company in Cupertino shipped its first product, which was destined to revolutionize the way computing was done. Some around here might even remember within a couple of years, the second Nonstop was shipped to Tarrant County, for Radio Shack, and another soon after to UT Health Science Center at Dallas (under the Parkland Hospital emergency room)! To celebrate, our theme this year was just that, ‘Revolution, Nonstop’, in honor of that month 50 years ago.

AI Notice: the above photo was generated by ChatGPT, and does not imply that Jack Loustaunou, Mike Green, Jim Katzman or Jimmy Treybig were active participants in the US War of Independence in the 18th Century. It’s intended to represent that they helped lead the computing revolution of the 1970s providing better alternatives than ‘Big Blue’.

In great Texas style, we kicked off the day with a breakfast taco buffet at 8. At 9, President Bill Honaker of XID Software, Inc. highlighting the US Semi-quincentennial (250 year) anniversary of independence, but more pertinent, the first shipped Nonstop system. He noted some area customers (including his own first Nonstop system), as well as the first North Texas customer service office just a short walk from the Event Center.

Our audience that day had representatives from 9 current customer companies in financial and healthcare fields, as well as a wealth of sponsor and HPE folks for those customers to talk to.

HPE started off the day’s presentations with Karen Ramirez, HPE’s North American Director of Nonstop Sales, and Roland Lemoine, Product Manager for the Nonstop Enterprise Division. Karen gave some 2026 Highlights for the NonStop Division, and then Roland covered the current Nonstop roadmap and highlights.

We had six Gold sponsor this year, five of whom gave presentations. Odyssey Information Services used their session to allow Juden Supapo, HPE Principal Presales Architect, gave us an overview of their OpsRamp platform, which is an AI-driven, Enterprise-wide set of tools to monitor critical subsystems and take first-level support actions. Odyssey is in the process of creating agents for OpsRamp to support the Nonstop platform.

Mike Mitsch of ETI-NET was up next to give updates on their Nonstop product family, including BackBox, QoreStore, and others. XYPRO’s Gabriel Alvarez followed with information about their CVE Intelligence features and other XYPRO product updates

Everyone then had a lively (and filling!) lunch buffet sponsored by NTI, consisting of Steak, Salmon, some great salad and vegetables and a challenging set of desserts to choose from, along with lively conversations at the many tables.

Tom Miller of HPE took the session stage next, and kept the audience from nodding off by extolling the many uses for Python on Nonstop. Gustavo Cavazos of NuWave followed that with a discussion of their integration products, focusing in detail on their LightWave server and client. Our last Gold sponsor speaker, Sachin Aher of OmniPayments, completed the post-lunch speaker sessions discussing Payments as a Service, Tokenization, and tools for Nonstop.

After a break for everyone to catch their breath and network a bit, Edward Adams of comforte talked about modernizing Nonstop data-centric security, and introduced their Unified Protection product TAMUNIO. Finally, Paden Holenstein of Gravic finished up the day’s technical sessions by giving updates on all the newest features released for the Shadowbase suite of products.

In addition to the sponsors mentioned above, CSP (Computer Security Products) was a Gold Sponsor but was unable to attend. N2TUG is very grateful to all of our sponsors for making the day possible, allowing us to provide meeting space, food and beverages for meals and breaks, as well as the Evening Reception.

As usual, many of the partners offered up door prizes, and we had a drawing for the attendees that were representing customers. Odyssey, ETI-NET, XYPRO, NuWave, OmniPayments, comforte and NTI all contributed, and you should find some of the recipients pictured later in this article. N2TUG really appreciates their generosity, and it was a great way to reward those that survived the entire day of talks! The day ended with networking at the evening reception. There were a couple of hours of beer, wine, cocktails and unique hors d’oeuvres, in fine Tandem ‘beer bust’ tradition.

As always, during the entire day, the participants had great questions and the speakers fielded them all, which reinforces why in-person meetings are so valuable to everyone involved. We always get feedback from the Sponsors that we have the most engaged attendees of any of their regional meetings. It was a day packed with information, networking and social engagement, and we are already thinking about next year!

We’d also like to thank Odyssey for providing logistics support with registration, badges, lanyards and printing, as well as sponsor XID Software for providing Bill Honaker’s time and planning to make the day go smoothly. We hope to see you and your associates next year at N2TUG 2027!
