Breaking down silos: NonStop deployments rely on Striim to integrate data in real time
Striim
DanThere was a good turnout for our most recent Webinar – Embracing Real-Time Hybrid IT and Advanced Analytics in HPE NonStop Environments. Striim co-founder and CTO, Steve Wilkes, together with Pyalla Technologies co-founder and CEO, Richard Buckle, discussed the means by which the deployment of Striim can help in dismantling technology and solution silos, even as it ensures greater integration with the rest of IT. It’s important to remember that analytics, streaming or otherwise, need data, and with Striim, data generated on NonStop can be more effectively integrated with data management platforms.
As noted last month and worth repeating, as you begin to embrace cloud services, your HPE NonStop systems running those all-important mission critical applications cannot be left isolated, locked away in a technology silo. This data on NonStop, generated as transactions are processed 24×7, is just too valuable a resource to be kept “outside the loop,” inaccessible by other applications. And what we heard Steve and Richard address was just how easy data integration has proved to be for NonStop users who today leverage Striim streaming integration in order to gain real-time operational intelligence from their NonStop data.
Last month we wrote about modernization and noted too that NonStop systems and the applications they support, have become as modern as every other system – x86, converged Ethernet, virtualized workloads even the ability to run from within a cloud as is happening today with NonStop inside of HPE IT. Perhaps of more interest to the NonStop community is the aggressive manner in which NonStop development is going about making sure NonStop can run in more commercially viable virtual machines, with the latest update announcing general availability for VMware. Even more exciting is the enthusiasm NonStop development exhibits when it comes to thinking about using NonStop on the basis of a service – NSaaS has begun appearing in presentations on the NonStop roadmap.
There are always plenty of caveats telling us that not everything that appears on a NonStop roadmap necessarily will make it into the marketplace as a supported product, but given how HPE IT is utilizing NonStop and NS SQL/MX on the basis of a service, perhaps NSaaS needs to be viewed as being close to reality. Coincidently, NonStop development is also presenting a case for consumption pricing – a model that allows NonStop users to deploy as much NonStop as they need, when they need it, for as long as it’s required. Clearly, the initial storyline coming from HPE revolves around the needs of developers and those charged with testing. However, when any discussion turns to modernization, as we continue to undergo this major digital transformation, consumption pricing does indeed make sense. “Consumption based pricing is fast becoming the new norm for how companies purchase technology. This lowers the bar for companies to use NonStop in new scenarios as it reduces up front capital outlay and helps mitigate technology risk,” said Striim co-founder, Sami Akbay. “At Striim, we have already started to offer consumption based pricing on some public clouds. We’ll be ready to provide consumption-based licensing for Striim upon request from NonStop customers.”
One more item of good news from Striim – the company has been recognized as a winner of the 2018 Bay Area Best Places to Work award, a program presented by the San Francisco Business Times and the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Striim ranked the #10 Best Place to Work among companies with less than 50 employees in the Bay Area. “This is the second year in a row that Striim has been recognized as a top 10 company to work for,” stated Katherine Rincon, SVP of Marketing at Striim. “As much as we love our streaming integration technology and believe in the vision of this company, it’s the people that make Striim great!”
It’s always good to be recognized in this manner and as we continue to grow our installed base among NonStop users, it’s further acknowledgment that not only is our solution recognized as among the best in data streaming integration platforms, but also our company and its people are recognized as being among the very best. If you would like to know even more about Striim and how it helps integrate NonStop with the rest of IT or would like to know more about its data streaming integration platform, by all means contact the Striim team at any time!
